I have been painting in and around Northern California for years. I studied art at Sacramento City College, UC Davis and most recently Sacramento State. Through this process, I have come to understand painting as more than observation, blending imagination with interpretation.
My work is the result of my interest in the ways we interact with our surroundings - lakes, rivers, trees, sky, land, structures: familiar borders and boundaries. As is often the case, these paintings develop into collages made up of elements from the environment and different colors as well as textures. Putting these elements together and combining them is what motivates me. I often start with a landscape and build from there what I see unfolding before me. I sometimes finish my pieces in the studio or reinterpret them on a larger scale after staring at them and pondering the emotions they provoke and the experiences they express.
